2010 is looking to be a great year for the Embassy Theatre in Skegness with shows that will WOW crowds of all ages.
The Embassy is well worth a visit in 2010 with top shows like Andrew Lloyd Webber’s: Joseph and his Amazing Technicolour Dream Coat starring Craig Chalmers, from the hit BBC show Any Dream Will Do, performs in this family musical, Joseph will be performing in February 2010.
A Michael Jackson Tribute band all the way from the USA will be performing at the Embassy in February 2010 and for adults who enjoy a good laugh with a naughty sense of humour Julian Clary will be sweeping into town in the same month.
For Rock Chicks and Dudes a tribute band to Bon Jovi, The Bon Jovi Experience will be performing at the Embassy in March as well as Steve Steinman’s Bad Boy Johnny and The Prophets of Doom playing in April. This show was an original hit in Australia where it starred no other than a young Russell Crowe, so who knows where the star of the English version will be in the future, this shows guaranteed to be a lot of fun.
The little ones are in for a treat to with Postman Pat driving into the Embassy to say hello late February 2010. Show Me Chris & Pui from CBeebies will be dropping by in April and my personal favourite Noddy will be performing to fans young and old in May 2010.
For Teenagers a tribute band to the Kings of Leon called Kings OV Leon, will be show casing their show in April 2010.
The hard work and dedication from the Embassy staff is really paying off next season, providing shows for all tastes and ages. Their dedication can be seen in the Embassy Theatre 2010 prospectus featuring shows like Most Haunted Live! from the popular TV series. For the first time on stage around the country the Most Haunted Live show promises to be a supernatural thrill-fest, that’s a totally unique event, playing at the Embassy theatre in February 2010.
A Take That tribute band (Back for Good) will be singing the night away with Take That songs new and old in April.
Desperado – Heart of the Eagles (Eagles tribute band) is coming to the Embassy as part of their world tour in April and Essence of Ireland will get you in the Irish mood in May with Irish music and dancing.
Bat – The Symphony, Steve Steinmen’s tribute to Meatloaf will be featuring a 30 piece orchestra in June 2010 with the power of a rock band mixing both classical music style with rock to create a mind-blowing musical event.
The ever popular AWE inspiring Ice show from the Wild Rose Russian skate stars, are returning to the Embassy in 2010 with Snow White. Date to be announced. We have been to see several of there spectacular Ice Shows at the Embassy, our favourites being Peter Pan On Ice and Cirque De Glace Ice Show. Snow White is a definite must see, not to be missed!
In September Brian Fortuna & Kristina Rihanoff dance stars of the ever popular BBC1 TV show Strictly Come Dancing will be getting your body moving with Strictly Dancing at the Embassy.
These are a small example of the shows coming to the Embassy Theatre in 2010, so dump the pub for once and give yourself a night to remember by giving the Skegness Embassy Theatre a try, you wont be disappointed with the performances taking place next year, there’s something for everyone, so pick up a 2010 brochure and book your tickets early for a night out of a life time.
As we see some of the shows above they’ll be reviewed and linked from Skegness Embassy Theatre 2010 Spring and Summer Shows.
Skegness Embassy Theatre Reviews
Marie
I do feel that if you are going to Review the attractions for 2010 you should show a more varied taste, remember that there are all age groups who use the theatre, apart from Joseph which I most cirtainly be attending all the other attractions are iether for chrildren or are rock bands, you are doing the theatre a great injustice if you don’t mention other acts that will undoutable bring in much larger audiences than the ones who have mentioned.
In April Its the Solid Silver 60s shows 25 Aniversary show with the Swinging Blue jeans, The Troggs, Brian poole and Day Berry, this show is a big attraction. Also in April The Soldiers will be appearing and they have at the present just had a top selling single with coming home and a massive hit with there Album.
In July Jane McDonald will be appearing in a new show and tickets for this are already in demand, she has a massive following in Skegness, Also appearing in July is two of Strictly Dancings Professional dancers Brian Fontane and Kristine Rihanoff.
So please if your giving a review that visitors to this town may see please include all tastes and not just those of the reviewers
Who is going to pay for the tickets to the Embassy Theatre for shows we aren’t that interested in?
We can only review shows we see and as we pay for every show we aren’t going to go to shows we won’t enjoy since this website is a hobby not a business (makes very little money, it’s made less than £50 since going live).
Yes, there are shows we might go to see (not exactly our taste, but worth a try) if the Embassy was free, but it isn’t free, so like you we go to the shows we really want to see (just like a visitor to Skegness might do).
Also we’d do both the Embassy and the producers of the shows a disservice if we did go to shows that’s not really our taste as the reviews would come from the perspective of someone who didn’t enjoy that type of show.
I enjoy rock music, classical music, some popular music, but I’m not a fan of brass bands (they are OK, but I wouldn’t pay to see one). I’d struggle to review a show that featured brass bands heavily, I could comment on how they sounded, but the music wouldn’t ‘move me’, I wouldn’t get the WOW from it like you might.
To suggest we only go to see children’s shows and rock bands shows you’ve not read all the reviews, these are the shows we’ve seen and reviewed:
Annie The Musical
Beauty And The Beast Ice Show
The Big Ballet
Chicago Blues Brothers
Chinese State Circus
Cirque De Glace Ice Show
Gotta Sing, Gotta Dance Musical
Peter Pan On Ice
ROUTE 66
Shakespeare 4 Kidz Macbeth
Shakespeare Abridged 37 Plays in 97 Minutes
Songs Of Sister Act
Spirit Of The Dance
That’ll Be The Day Christmas Special
Vampires Rock 2007
Vampires Rock 2008
There’s only one rock band we’ve seen so far (Vampire Rock) and it has a big following. The rest are pretty much general family entertainment like ice shows (three ice shows).
Seriously, as you say you are not interested in rock bands, so would you pay to see Vampires Rock next month at the Embassy even though you’d probably not enjoy it, just so you can write a review about it?
If you did see Vampires Rock do you think you could write a fair review when you don’t enjoy that type of music?
David
I think you miss my point, I wasn’t suggesting that you go and watch all the shows. The Subject of the thread I commented on was whats on at the Embassy in 2010 and I was suggesting that if you are to run a column that visitors from outside could possibly read then you should give a overall look at what the embassy was putting on and not just your particular choice of programme because others might see it and think that the theatre only had a limited list of shows. Yes you have reviewed a good variety, but this thread clearly stated it was to do with future events in 2010
We did misunderstand you, but you did say “I do feel that if you are going to Review the attractions for 2010 you should show a more varied taste”.
Which uses the word review (you even capitalised the R which suggests it’s important?). Since this page is not a review of Embassy shows we believed you were referring to the site as a whole (quite a lot of Embassy Theatre reviews: wife’s favourite Skegness attraction :-)) which of course are going to have a tendency to be reviews of theatre shows we enjoy.
Like my wife said this page is just a taste of what’s on at the Embassy in 2010 concentrating mostly on productions not seen at the Embassy Theatre previously (we won’t see all the shows listed above and will see others not listed). So it’s far from a comprehensive list of what’s on.
From what you’ve said the shows you see sound secure with lots of visitors, it’s the new productions that need the promotion, so Skegness visitors and residents know there’s something new at the Embassy in 2010. If no one goes they won’t be back in 2011 and that also risks your shows, remember ELDC have discussed the long term viability of the Embassy Theatre (it could close!!!). So many great shows my wife has seen where there’s only a couple of hundred seats filled, for example Shakespeare Abridged 37 Plays in 97 Minutes, though it’s about Shakespeare it’s a very, very funny show that anyone who enjoys a good laugh would enjoy and when my wife went to Shakespeare Abridged the theatre only had about 100 in the audience! I very much doubt with such a poor turn out they’ll be back in 2010 and I’d have really liked to see them :(
If you feel passionate about particular shows you’ve seen or plan to see and think they should be listed here, feel free to list them in a comment (that’s what the comments are here for).
David
My article clearly says at the bottom that the shows mentioned in the article are just a sample of shows coming to the Embassy in spring/summer 2010. My article didn’t say as you put it “this thread clearly stated it was to do with future events in 2010”, I couldn’t possibly mention every show that will be on at the Embassy, that would make it just a list and boring to read.
They are not all my taste, so I haven’t only written the article from my own perspective, We for example will not be going to see the children’s shows since our son is to old for them, We will not be seeing Kings ov Leon, Most Haunted Live, Eagles tribute band, Take That tribute band or Strictly Dancing even though I mentioned them in the article
Marie
The Embassy Theatre What’s on Guide is only a sample of new shows that haven’t been to the Embassy before.
Most of the shows that I will NOT be seeing I included in my What’s on Guide, like the Eagles tribute band, Most Haunted Live, Strictly and Take That (they where popular when I was younger, but not my personal taste). The full spring/summer season hasn’t even been published yet.
Many of the shows you mentioned in your comment are acts and performances that come to the Embassy every year, I chose to concentrate mainly on new shows that are coming to the Embassy in 2010. Since most of the new shows are aimed at a more varied age range than what is usually on offer, I chose to introduce the Embassy to a new generation of potential theatre goers in the hope they will find something they would enjoy to go and see. And as you said the shows you’ve mentioned are already popular with your generation, so don’t really need help in bringing in a new audience to the Embassy.
The Embassy has to attract new theatre goers to survive and flourish and the future for the Embassy Theatre is in a younger generation.
By attracting shows with a more modern flavour the survival of the Embassy theatre will be assured for many years to come. The Embassy still has some way to go on attracting new theatre goers they need to branch out and get acts that they are maybe not used to attracting like break dancing groups like Diversity or unusual musical shows like Stomp and the Blue man group.
I don’t know what the strategy of the Embassy theatre is in getting in new performances, but I personally would be looking at what shows other Theatres around the country where showing and trying to book them for the following year.
We have for example been to see shows in Skegness that where brought here by the Lincolnshire Arts Council (Baghdaddies, Graffiti Classics and Strange face) all of the shows we saw were fantastic and I couldn’t help thinking why the Embassy Theatre hadn’t booked them to perform at the Embassy? all of these productions where capable of performing on a full sized stage.
How do you work that out that a holey positive article about new up coming shows in 2010 is an injustice to the Embassy!
I didn’t mention a lot of the shows like the soldiers simply because this article was written before their show had been published.
A lot of the older performances/performers who will be performing at the Embassy Theatre in 2010 are well before my time and I have no idea who they are, so if I had of included them in the article with no prier knowledge of them it would have been an injustice (as you put it) to include them.
It would be an injustice to comment on a show that I don’t know anything about. I would love to be able to see shows that are from your generation, I am renowned for giving shows a go that I’m not that sure I’ll like, Nutcracker ballet for one, but the cost alone would be stupidity for an hobby (this site).
I can’t help thinking that was an ill thought out jab by you!
I’m not a professional reviewer, I only review shows I’ve been to see and since I can not afford to go to every show, in all honesty and good conscience I will not write a review about a show I haven’t seen and I will not waste my money going to see them.
I started writing reviews particularly about the theatre because I couldn’t find useful reviews on many shows I was interested in seeing and when your looking at £50ish to see a show it meant I’m taking a gamble whenever I go to the theatre. I wanted other people like me, to be able to read an honest review from someone who has been in the audience one person to another, so they can make a decision based on an ordinary persons perspective instead of complicated drivel from a newspaper critique who may have ulterior motives, or the usual blurb you get from the producers of the shows that tells you nothing.
I commend the Embassy for branching out by getting a wide variety of shows for next year, for far to long the Embassy year after year have been show casing the same shows that are usually aimed at the older generation, young people have money to spend to :-), If the Embassy keeps up this approach and keep working hard then the Embassy is looking to becoming the best theatre in Lincolnshire providing top shows for everyone.
I did some research on other theatres in Lincolnshire and they are showing the same old shows they always show, only the Embassy has something to be proud of, I can get really excited about next year, the Embassy is doing a good job in 2010 bringing shows for youngsters, teenagers which is great, families and older people and I want everyone to know it. The Embassy shows in 2009 where good and much improved on 2008, but next year they are excellent.
Well done Embassy Theatre Staff.
Marie
